Sashiko Needles and Thread
Sashiko thread is a specialized 100% cotton thread characterized by its strength and durability. It tends to be thicker than standard embroidery floss, contributing to the bold, visible stitches typical of Sashiko designs. Traditional Sashiko uses white thread on indigo-dyed fabric, but modern Sashiko incorporates a wide variety of colors for both thread and fabric, expanding its decorative potential.
Unlike embroidery floss (which often comes in six strands), Sashiko thread is not meant to be split. This ensures even stitching and consistent texture throughout the design. The matte, slightly fuzzy finish enhances the handcrafted look.
